Homemade Bathroom Cleaner Recipe

by allysonrosenbloom

This homemade bathroom cleaner recipe is one I’ve been using for quite a few years now with no complaints.

I love the way this rinses clean and leaves my tub and sink sparkling…well, as sparkling as 70 year old tubs and sinks could be. For counters and fixtures in the bathroom I use my Natural All Purpose Cleaner Recipe.

Homemade Bathroom Cleaner Recipe:
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup liquid castile soap
1 teaspoon borax
5-8 drops essential oil (optional, I use lemon, clove, lavender or tea tree oil)

I roughly mix out the above ingredients into a wet scrub paste. I use an old cottage cheese container to store it and it stays nice and fresh that way for many months. Since I make just a small batch at a time I generally mix up a new batch about every six months or so.

Please Note: – These cleaners have not been tested on all the surfaces in your home…only mine so please use at your own risk. Test first in a small, hidden area. Please label your homemade all purpose cleaner appropriately and keep all homemade cleaners out of the reach of children.

Instead of using separate tea tree oil, have you ever tried mixing this recipe with Dr Bronner’s tea tree liquid castile soap? I’m thinking the result should be the same. I’m also wondering the same for your all purpose cleaner….

Do you use this same paste to clean your toilet (with a toilet brush of course)? If not, can you share info on how you do that naturally & homemade?

I’ve never heard of Castille Soap, I don’t think it’s called that in my country. Can you tell me what it’s made of so I can find a local alternative?
