Is honey for skin? Does it work as a good cleanser? Oh yes and it works wonders. At least for me. Please read all of this with a grain of salt because there are many different skin types. What might be too oily for some is too dry for others. I don’t think there is one size fits all with homemade beauty products. This is merely what I use and what works for me.
I’ve always had a problem with my skin. Acne came years before puberty and it stayed around long into my twenties. Prescription creams worked really well, but the idea of those harsh chemicals on my face terrified me. So I headed to my natural foods market to use buy some natural face cleansers.
To make a long story short, I spent way too much money on all the natural products. And nothing really worked. Many of them had honey in the ingredients and I started reading up on the benefits of honey for treating acne. So I tried it. I had some in the kitchen anyway since we make a lot of almond butter and honey snacks.
I use a thick, raw honey (the see through liquid versions that come in a bear bottle are stripped of their benefical properties so get yourself a raw honey) and I put a small dollup (I’d say a 1/2 teaspoon) on my hands and work it into my face. Then I rinse it off with warm water. That is it, simple as that.
Never have I had such clear skin, all year round!
After cleansing with honey I usually use a simple homemade olive oil or coconut oil “lotion” and that is it! Very simple.
