Easiest Orange Ice Cream Recipe

by allysonrosenbloom

This is an easy orange ice cream recipe that results in a creamy sweet orange taste, similar to what you may call a “Dreamsicle” or “Creamsicle” flavor.

We have an orange tree in our front yard so using freshly squeezed juice (at least in season) is an easy option for us. While I highly suggest you try it with freshly squeezed oranges, I realize that this may defy your definition of “easy” and since I promised easy go ahead and use regular orange juice.

Please Note: All of my recipes make approximately one quart of ice cream.

Orange Ice Cream Recipe
2 cups (ideally freshly squeezed) orange juice
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups heavy cream

Instructions: Whisk the sugar in the orange juice until dissolved and then add all other ingredients. Then pour in your ice cream maker and mix until it is frozen.

If you opt for freshly squeezed, expect to use around 8 oranges, though the amount will vary depending on the type of oranges you use. I didn’t any food coloring to this batch so the color is very pale orange just from the juice. If you want a real creamy orange color, you can add 1/8 teaspoon red and 1/4 teaspoon yellow food coloring.

I use a drum mixer that is an attachment to my KitchenAid and it takes about 20 minutes. This results in a soft serve texture so I transfer it to a glass freezer dish for a few hours for it to firm up to a texture I can scoop.

Enjoy making this orange ice cream recipe!

Hello, this sounds delicious but I was wondering how much sugar did you add?

I made something similar to your recipe and was scouring the internet looking at different recipes to see if I could improve mine. I used boxed orange juice from the store and I think that was my mistake. Although mine was good, it needed more orange flavor. I also wondered about adding lemon juice too and I see you did. I’ve been using 1/2 cup honey instead of sugar and I also tried one batch with lyle’s golden syrup, which seems to make it creamier…professionals use invert sugar to make the ice cream better. I now can’t wait to make my next batch with fresh oranges.

The sugar in the recipe is 1 cup. It is listed next to the vanilla without a line break.

I added tumeric and nutmeg for coloring and a touch of flavor.
